Fred was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, uncle, and friend whose greatest joy in life was the family he loved so deeply. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, kind heart, quiet strength, wonderful sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to those he cherished. Whether through his warm smile, quick wit, or the laughter he shared so freely, Fred brought joy and comfort to those around him. The many memories he created with family and friends will be treasured for generations to come.
Fred graduated from North High School in Columbus, Ohio, in 1953. He went on to dedicate many years to the grocery and food service industry before transitioning into insurance, ultimately retiring from Prudential. Throughout his career, Fred was known for his strong work ethic, genuine kindness, and ability to build lasting friendships while earning the admiration and respect of colleagues and customers alike.
Fred was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Carol Evans. Together, Fred and Carol built a beautiful life centered on love, family, faith, service, and adventure. They shared a passion for traveling and camping in their RV, creating countless wonderful memories with their children and grandchildren along the way. For 15 years, Fred and Carol enjoyed life as Florida snowbirds, wintering in Bradenton, where they formed many treasured friendships and memories together.
Fred especially loved Crystal Lake in Beulah, Michigan, a destination that held a special place in his heart and where countless family memories were made. After Carol’s passing, Fred continued the cherished tradition of traveling there each year with his son and great-grandson, keeping those precious memories close.
In the years following Carol’s passing, Fred found comfort and simple joy in the everyday rhythms of home. He spent many peaceful afternoons on his back porch watching the golfers pass by, a quiet pastime he truly enjoyed as he lived on a golf course. He could often be found sitting at his back patio doors overlooking the golf course, working on puzzles and enjoying the calm, familiar view. He also spent time sitting out in his garage, visiting with neighbors and staying connected to the community he loved. Fred delighted in the companionship and frequent visits from his four-legged friend, Gus, which brought him great comfort and happiness.
Fred and Carol were also dedicated volunteers with Operation Buckeye for many years, helping pack care boxes for active service members serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Their compassion and generosity touched many lives.
He is survived by his loving children: Mindy Evans (Dave Grundy) of Lakewood Ranch, FL., Larry (Joyce) Evans of Johnstown, OH., Lorrie (Steve) Donaldson of Johnstown, OH., and Michele (Craig) Carson of Columbus, OH.
