Janice Justine (Peters) Seymour was born on April 20, 1934 in Springfield, Ohio, to Erman and Lillie Peters.
Her mother died when she was 5 years old, and her family moved around quite a bit through her childhood, evidenced by attending 6 different High Schools and many other schools during her childhood. She often said that she never felt GROUNDED during her growing-up years.
At the age of 14, Janice came into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, which she never walked (moved) away from. That experience GROUNDED her and marked the remainder of her life. During her teen and adult years, she gracefully followed the voice and plan of God until she died and was transferred into the presence of her Savior on July 30, 2025. This GROUNDED her for all eternity.
Janice met Jim Seymour, and he quickly became the love of her life. They had a short engagement, followed by their wedding on March 14, 1953. She was a loving helper to her husband, working hard to help provide for her family throughout the 67 years of their marriage. Their marriage became a testimony to the beauty of a GROUNDED relationship.
After Jim was drafted into the United States Army, Janice remained at home until they could afford to have her move to Germany. She didn’t want to be separated while Jim was serving, so she chose to GROUND herself in his presence until his deployment was over.
Jim and Janice were not physically able to have children, so they adopted Karen when she was just a few days old while they were in Germany. They fell in love with her at first sight. They wanted to give her a GROUNDING that she was not going to be provided with by her birth mother.
Two years after adopting Karen, God miraculously healed Janice’s body, which gave them the ability to have their own children, Kevin, Kerry, and Kyle. She took pride in giving her family a GROUNDED experience as long as they lived at home.
Surviving Janice are her children, Karen (Rick) Suvak of Galena, Ohio, Kevin (Marsha) Seymour of Lewis Center, Ohio, Kerry Seymour of Pataskala, Ohio, and Kyle (Andrea) Seymour of Pataskala, Ohio, as well as the joy of heart, her 13 grandchildren; Dianne (Suvak) Walls, Deborah (Suvak) Cooper, Jared Suvak, Jameson Seymour, Joshua Seymour, Jonathan Seymour, Jelissa (Seymour) Oberg, Josiah Seymour, Jeremy Seymour, Kaitlyn (Seymour) Scherker, Tanner Seymour, Trevor Seymour, and Torrey Seymour. If the grandchildren were the joy of Janice’s heart, the sparkle in her eye was her 14 great-grandchildren. Janice is also survived by her brother, Danny (Teresa) Peters, as well as many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Being that she was a wonderful mother, she decided early that her kids were going to need braces, so she took a job working 3rd shift for Huntington National Bank Data Processing Center. She chose to work that shift because she wanted to prepare dinner for her family every night, plus, it permitted her to be home during the days and early evenings, allowing her to attend her kids’ ball practices and games, band concerts, track meets, and other important events that her children were a part of. She made sure that her children had a sense of GROUNDING in all that they did.
Because Janice made godly choices to keep her life GROUNDED in the Word of God, she was able to gracefully survive the deaths of her mother (Lillie Fulks Peters), father (Erman Peters), husband (Jim Seymour), brothers (Jackie and Nathan Peters), and her daughter-in-law (Mindy Seymour).
Janice was also GROUNDED in her church. Janice’s pastor for 32+ years was her son, Kevin. She supported the two churches he was the pastor of and is still the Pastor today. She did all she could to assist the ministries of those churches. Therefore, her family has asked that instead of flowers, please consider giving to “Hope Community Church of the Nazarene”. All the funds received will go specifically to their Children’s and Teen ministries, and are tax-deductible.
Janice’s family will welcome friends on Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at Schoedinger Funeral Home, 1051 E Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230
Janice’s funeral service will be held at the Seymour family’s home church, Shepherd Church of the Nazarene, 425 S Hamilton Rd, Gahanna, OH 43230, on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 11:00 am.
