Bursting into life in Athens, Ohio Jeny was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Dave Reynolds, parents Arthur and Dorothy Sprague, sister Margaret Havens and niece Leslie Herbst. She leaves three sons; Bill (Sally) Reynolds, Tom Reynolds, and David (Denise) Reynolds; grandchildren: Chris (Jocelyn), Jeny (Ike), Doug (Jenna) and Jacy (Seth) and great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Shea, Ella, Magnolia, Rye, Cedar, Andi, and Haisley.
Nene was a lifelong and well-known artist who began her long career at age eight in her mother’s Athens garden. After moving to Columbus and starting a family she began a prolific life-long career. Beginning with the Bexley Area Art Guild her horizons expanded and grew through so many phases from oils, watercolors, acrylics, reverse on glass, sculpture and collage. She painted wherever she traveled and creations from the west, that she loved, to Abaco to France adorn walls across the country.
So many creations and art sessions with her good friends Jane Heller, Marti Steffy, Carolyn Beavers and so many others in various studios, clinics and group critiques produced an amazing amount of creativity. Early in her career she and good friend and artist Marylou Jackson laid the foundation for Artitst Palette, a group of lady artists still meeting today.
She was very honored to be a member of National League of American Pen Women and The Ohio Water Color Society and was featured in Columbus Monthly Home Style Magazine in 2019. Jeny was the recipient of too many awards and recognitions to list here. Needless to say, she was the source of much pride and example to family and friends.
Nene possessed the unique ability to view a subject, process that through her joyful soul, transfer that through a magic brush onto canvas, paper or glass and produce her vision to share with the rest of us. She said she could only see color through one eye. The other saw only grey. Truly remarkable. Sometimes referred to as “the queen of color” she said simply, “that’s the way things should look”.
So many have commented, “I look at her painting and just smile”. What a wonderful way to be remembered and what a great legacy that is!
Mom didn’t care much for funerals and preferred not to have one.
Burial will be private. A Celebration of her life will be held from 4-6pm on Wednesday, August 3rd at the Columbus Country Club, 4831 E. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43213.
