Lawrence E. Stewart Jr.

Lawrence Emerson "Larry" Stewart Jr., age 73, of Gahanna, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on July 30, 2026, surrounded by his family. After courageously battling cancer for nearly 20 years, Larry leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, unwavering devotion, and selfless love.

Larry was born on March 2, 1953, in Gahanna, Ohio, where he was raised and spent his life. He graduated from Gahanna Lincoln High School in 1971 before earning his degree from The Ohio State University in 1975.

Throughout his career, he worked for The Kroger Co. for 20 years, like his father, and later for Mifflin Township for 23 years.

Larry devoted his life to caring for those he loved, looking after his parents, caring for Jill's parents as if they were his own, or always being there for his children and grandchildren, his greatest joy came from taking care of his family.

He was also an avid sports fan and, despite being an Ohio State graduate, remained a lifelong Michigan Wolverines fan; a rivalry he always enjoyed.

Larry is survived by the love of his life and devoted partner of 37 years, Jill (Huber) Nelson; his daughter, Carrie (Todd) Matthews; his son, Lawrence (Meagan) Stewart III; his seven beloved grandchildren, Ryland, Andrew, Betsey, and Oliver Matthews, Christian, Grayson, and Adelaide Stewart; his sisters, Sandra (Pete) Ferguson and Sally (Jerry) McIntosh; his niece, Lori (Steve) Watson; his nephew, Mark (Leah) McIntosh; and his niece, Cari McIntosh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Emerson Stewart Sr. and Velma (Albery) Stewart; along with his parents- in-law, Frank and Buelah Huber.

Larry will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, kindness, and devotion lives on through his family and all whose lives he touched.

In accordance with Larry's wishes, no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate in his memory to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
