Mary E. Benson, 73, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away in her sleep on April 3, 2026. Mary was born on August 14, 1952 to the late Evelyn E. and William E. Benson Jr. Mary was the beloved mother of Melissa (Dale) White and step-mother to the late John Taylor Jr. and Teah (Sean) Grigsby.
Mary was born in Baltimore, Maryland and was preceded in death by her parents; former spouse, John W. Taylor Sr.; step-children; and siblings Evelyn Bush, Lillian Slezak, William Benson III, Ann Harris and Margaret Benson.
Mary is survived by her daughter, sister, Rose (Fred) Short, grandchildren Alexus, JT, Brandon, Zach, Arabella, Kadince, Lana, Chloe, Pyrrha and Talya; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary retired from the City of Columbus in 2020 to enjoy time with her family.
A family gathering and celebration of life will take place this summer at Ocean City, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's name to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America would be greatly appreciated.
