Mary Ann (Miller) Hobart, of Columbus, OH, passed peacefully in hospice care on December 19, 2023, with two of her sons and two of her daughters at her side. She was born December 5, 1929, in Akron, OH, and lived in Marion, OH, until the age of 11, when her family moved to Ironton, OH. Mary Ann was the oldest of 12 children raised in a home on the Ohio River. One must roll down the floodwall in the backyard when visiting (Great-)Granny’s house. Mary Ann graduated as Valedictorian from St. Joseph Catholic High School, Ironton, in 1947. After high school she traveled, often, going to California, Florida and Notre Dame football games. Mary Ann worked at the Dayton Malleable plant in Ironton, until her marriage. She married Ralph Hobart in 1955, and moved with him to Angola, IN. The family then lived in Ironton, OH briefly before packing up and relocating their ever-growing family to Buffalo, NY, Rock Hill, SC, Pearisburg, VA, and Middletown, NJ. The last transfer was to Columbus, OH in 1974, where she raised her eight children, taught CCD at St. Peter Catholic Church, provided day care in her home for several years, and became the “lunch lady” at the middle school when she moved to Worthington. She later moved to a home in New Albany, OH, to be closer to her oldest children, who were always there for her. She moved several times as she aged and needed more assistance with her daily life. Her last weeks were spent surrounded by her loving children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as we helped care for her and said good-bye. Our thanks to the many health care professionals at Mt. Carmel East and Summit Hospice that guided us through this difficult time.
