A Tribute to a Life of Faith, Service, and Family
Mary “June” Rusher, was born in Columbus, Ohio, on November 4, 1927, to the late George and Ruby McGhee. She departed this life on January 20, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.
From a young age, June demonstrated a remarkable sense of responsibility and caring for her family. At just 13 years old, she regularly prepared dinner for her 11 siblings, ensuring they were cared for when their mother returned from work. After her mother’s passing, June steadfastly continued this devotion, playing a significant role in raising her younger siblings and often assisting in the upbringing of her nieces and nephews. Known affectionately as Aunt June, she and her husband, Uncle Cornelius, provided a loving, stable home, instilling strong values and the teachings of God in all who entered.
June’s early love for cooking blossomed into a lifelong passion and career. She spent many years working in the food industry, gaining recognition for her beautifully arranged salad platters, veggie trays, and her famous oatmeal cookies. Her talents extended into the public school system, where she prepared and served meals to children, spreading kindness and God’s love with every meal. June’s warmth and generosity left a lasting impression—many former students fondly remembered her well into adulthood.
June’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She supported her husband as he traveled teaching the Beatitudes, and together they moved their ministry to Washington, Georgia, sharing the messages of the “Beatitudes” and the “Lord’s Prayer.” June was also known for her own prayer ministry; people from all walks of life sought her comfort and healing prayers. She helped establish ministries playing a critical role praying over the sick. Friends, family, neighbors, and even her daughter’s business customers relied on June’s powerful prayers, often finding healing and comfort in her presence.
June was an accomplished reciter, cherishing both poetry and scripture. Among her favorites were the poem “The Lord’s Job” and Psalm 91, which she recited often as a source of inspiration and strength for others.
June’s life was a testament to service- unto God, family, neighbors, and friends. Her self-sacrifice mirrored the call of Christ, who that a true follower must first deny self, and in doing so, love others fully.
