
Matthew proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years, retiring with the rank of Staff Sergeant while serving with the 301st Combat Support Group and the 301st Air Refueling Wing at Rickenbacker Air Force Base. Following his military career, he dedicated many years to The Ohio State University, where he helped oversee campus food operations, ensuring students and faculty received proper nutrition and care.
Matthew was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved fishing, hunting, carpentry, cooking and grilling for family and friends, and spending time with his many friends in bowling leagues. He will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, generosity, and love for his family.
He is survived by his daughters, Sandra K. Stevens-Hairston and her husband, David K. Hairston, and Tracey Stevens; grandchildren, Shardez Stevens-Mock, Aliesha Myles, Dallas James Gordon, Demaari Myles, and William Myles Jr.; along with many loving family members and friends.
Matthew was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie Stevens; his father, Chester Aurthur Stevens; mother, Rosalee Boykins-Stevens; sisters, Annie Stevens, Pearl Stevens, Lizzie Stevens, Bertha Lewis, and Rachel Stevens.
Family and friends may gather for visitation on Saturday, June 6, 2026 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM at Schoedinger Northeast Funeral Home, 1051 E Johnstown Road. A funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
