He earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Murray State University and enjoyed a distinguished career in Mentor, Ohio. While in Mentor, Max found success as a teacher, coach, principal and finally as Athletic Director. He later held the Athletic Director role at New Albany High School and the Wellington School. After retiring, Max held roles with the OHSAA as basketball Tournament Director and at The Ohio State University in guest relations. Max was also inducted into the Galion High School Hall of Fame in 2021.
His true career passion was in having a positive impact on the lives of the students he was able to work with. That impact is proven by the outpouring of support already received from past students and the family is eternally grateful for the sharing of those thoughts and reflections.
Max never met a stranger and loved to connect and talk with friends, neighbors and co-workers. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf, spending time with family and cheering on his favorite Cleveland and Ohio State sports teams. Perhaps his favorite activity was being the biggest fan of his grandchildren in the various sports contests that they participated in over the years.
Max was married to his loving wife, Sharon (Lormor) Ness. He was a proud father to his son, Greg Ness, and a devoted grandfather to Parker Ness and Addison Ness; Father-in-Law to Kris Regula-Ness. Also, a loving brother to Ron Ness; Brother-in-Law to Molly Ness, Bob Lormor, Cindy (Seibel) Lormor, Carol (Lormor) Dottore, Bob Dottore, Pam (Lormor) Smith, Dave Smith and uncle to Steven Ness, Julia (Ness) Godwin, Lindsay (Smith) Dyslin, David Smith, Jackie (Lormor) Main and Jacob Lormor.
Max’s loss will leave a hole, but the memories of a full life lived well and the real impact on those who knew him will quickly close that gap!
Max’s family truly appreciates your support. In keeping with Max’s wishes, a private service for the family will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in New Albany on May 30th.
