
Mike is survived by his life partner of 20 years, Stayce Besst; his mother, Mary Alice (Bowlus) Moge; his son, Andy Herold (Lauren); his daughter, Ashley Wolfe (Josh); and his grandchildren, Alex, Jackson, Riley, Kyra, and Bailie. He is also survived by his brothers, John Herold and Ted Herold (Jill); his sister, Patti Mills (Kelly); and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Eugene Herold.
Mike grew up in Reynoldsburg and graduated from Walnut Ridge High School with the Class of 1976. He went on to immediately join the U.S. Army, serving from 1976 to 1980. He spent his military career in El Paso at Fort Bliss with the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment.
After his military service, Mike returned to Columbus to raise his family. He reveled in participating in all things sports with his children.
Mike was a dedicated employee of the City of Columbus for 42 years. He was proud to say he knew every square inch of downtown and, of course, the best parking spots.
In 1998, Mike discovered his passion for spinning. He went on to teach at Lifetime Fitness and various gyms for 25 years. Along the way, meeting, uplifting, and motivating countless people, many of whom became lifelong friends.
Mike was a true Buckeye fan. He lived to travel. He loved cruising, skiing, hiking, biking, camping, and spending time on other people’s boats.
Mike will be remembered by those who knew him for his boyish charm, positive attitude, fun spirit, and loving nature. His huge circle of friends, family, and chosen family were truly blessed to know and love him.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be announced at a later date.
