Mike most recently resided in Washington Township, Ohio, splitting his time between there and Worthington, Ohio, in the home of his significant other, Anne Krieger.
Mike led a life full of adventure, filled with an ever growing list of national, state, and local parks, bike paths, rivers, and mountains where he would hike, camp, climb, bike, and kayak, while always making time to check out the local microbreweries along the way. His proudest accomplishment was completing the Appalachian Trail in 2019 as a through-hiker under the trail name of MadTree.
He loved playing Shanghai Rummy with his family whenever he got the chance. He was known for coming up with new ways to keep the game interesting even in the event that your score would prevent you from winning; he is credited with the high-stakes holiday edition of the game, the bonus hand, and showing off whenever a joker was drawn.
Mike is survived by: his significant other, Anne Krieger; his mother, Mary Staley; his daughter, Karla (Jack) Little and grandson, Jeffrey; his son, Kyle Staley; his two brothers and two sisters, Julie Staley, Bob Staley, Jim (Terry) Staley, and Sue (Mike) Crawford, as well as his nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his father, Frank Staley.
There will be a visitation hours style Celebration of Life held for Mike on Thursday, September 26th, 2024, between the hours of 4pm and 8pm at the Cedar Ridge Lodge at Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park at 1775 Darby Creek Dr, Galloway, OH. Limited private parking can be found at the lodge, with additional overflow public parking available nearby, just a short walk from the lodge; carpooling is encouraged. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. Be sure to wear your favorite outdoor adventure, microbrewery, Reds baseball, or Bengals football gear to the celebration.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rails to Trails, Appalachian Trail Conservancy, or the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
