Ned Fitzgerald Peters, whose boundless optimism and tireless good cheer endeared him to people from all walks of life, went home to the Lord on December 19, 2021. Ned, of Gahanna, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family due to complications from prostate cancer. He was 74.
The eldest of three brothers, Ned was born in Columbus, Ohio, on May 20, 1947, to Ned Peters, Sr., and Nina Fitzgerald Peters. Ned graduated from Bexley High School in 1965 and would proudly serve in the U.S. Army for two years based in Stuttgart, Germany, during the Vietnam conflict.
Ned returned to Columbus following his military stint and soon settled into a position at Lazarus before entering real estate, a profession he performed with distinction for 30 years in Central Ohio.
Ned's greatest joy was his family. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, playing board games, and reveling in sports, especially his beloved OSU Buckeyes. Ned will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 24 years, Davida (Swartz) Peters; daughter Amanda (husband Ezequiel Minaya) and their daughter Cecilia; daughter Allison (Mike) Perez and their children Caleb and Grace; son Kent Feliks (Heather) and their two sons Augustus and Edison; brothers Mike (Janie) Peters and Frank (Cassie) Peters; sister-in-laws Bernadine Hedegard (Dick) and Marilyn Rio (Rich); and many beloved nephews and nieces.
Ned, whose tall, lanky frame belied a ravenous sweet tooth, was a proud and passionate Christian. Ned's faith took root following his mid-life decision to be sober. Ned counted his three decades of sobriety and unshakable devotion to Jesus Christ as among his proudest accomplishments.
Ned was a loyal friend and brother in Christ to his fellow parishioners at the New Albany Presbyterian Church. Ned was a volunteer and mentor at Youth for Christ for seven years and took a special interest in the mentorship of Jonathan Ross. Ned was also an active member of his Wednesday Morning Men's Bible Study that he lovingly referred to as his Band of Brothers.
Family will welcome friends on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, from 6-8 pm at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST FUNERAL HOME, 1051 E Johnstown Rd, Gahanna. A funeral service will take place Thursday, December 23, 2021, at 10 am at the funeral home. Interment to immediately follow at Mifflin Cemetery. Friends are welcome to join the family for refreshments at the funeral home following the burial.
