Peter H Meyers

He moved to Great Neck NY in the early 1950s with his mother and grandmother where he would spend the next sixty years. His mother introduced him to Lake George, where they'd spend summers at Adirondack Camp for Boys (now Adirondack Camp); she as the camp nurse and he as a camper, later counselor.

After graduating Great Neck North Senior High School in 1966, Peter joined the United States Air Force where he was stationed at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul IL. Upon leaving the USAF and the death of his mother, he began a career in sales and marketing specializing in automotive tools.

In the winter of 1969-1970, Peter met Stephanie Schubert while they led ski tours. They married in November 1971. Their first child, Ted, was born in 1979; they welcomed Audrey in 1983.

A career change in 1997 brought a dream to fruition when Peter and Stephanie bought Greek Delight Restaurant in Island Park NY. Peter threw himself into the day-to-day, running the restaurant six days a week. Four years later, conveniently timed to Ted's graduation from NYU, they sold the restaurant. Peter went on to work for, and retire from, the Great Neck Park District.

In addition to his career, Peter and Stephanie spent countless hours volunteering in multiple capacities with the United States Merchant Marine Academy Parents' Club; a convenient way to see Audrey while she was a midshipman at Kings Point, and for years after her graduation in 2004. He also served in many roles starting in the 1960s at All Saints' Episcopal Church in Great Neck NY, including acolyte, verger, warden, and chair of the cemetery.

Following the death of his beloved Stephanie in 2012, Peter moved to Hague NY overlooking the lake he loved so much. He spent his time volunteering at the Silver Bay YMCA where he was a longtime member of the Silver Bay Council, ultimately serving as Treasurer. He refinished many of the rocking chairs found across the campus. To feed his love of long road trips, he'd work occasionally as a transporter for the local Chevrolet dealer, as well as spend winters in New Orleans where he'd be near his three grandsons: Mason, Cole, and Andrew.

In 2023 to be closer to family, but out of the path of hurricanes, Peter moved to Friendship Village of Dublin, near Ted. He quickly became involved in the community at Friendship Village, serving on both the Food and Low Vision committees. He could be found regularly at Trivia and Bingo, playing Mexican Train Dominoes, enjoying First Saturday dinners with "the guys," or walking the campus while listening to music.

Peter died peacefully at home in Dublin on Sunday morning, August 23. He is survived by his son, Ted Meyers, of Columbus OH; and his daughter, Audrey (Josh) Hammond, and grandsons Mason, Cole, and Andrew, all of Destrehan LA.

A Celebration of Life with Holy Eucharist will be held at Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church, 2151 Dorset Road, Upper Arlington, OH, on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 11:00 A.M., with a light reception to follow.

Memorial Service and Interment will be at All Saints Episcopal Church and Cemetery, 855 Middle Neck Road, Great Neck NY, on Monday, October 12, 2026, at 2:30 P.M. A reception will follow the interment at The Mariner Estate, 94 Old Mill Road, Great Neck NY.
