Reed Shape peacefully slipped away in the early hours of June 22, 2024. He lived a fairytale life with a family that loved him fiercely and the most loyal friends who always had his back. He greeted everyone with a smile and strangers became friends within minutes. He was a career AT&T man, where he left an indelible mark, known for walking the shop floor every day and saying good morning to every single team member. His most fun, though, may have been as Papou to Zach, Theo and Cy. He was a front row, doting grandfather, their school bus driver, and regularly outdid the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus.
Reed’s favorite time of day was the early morning. He, along with Dan, Roger, Don and Paul started every morning at Lifetime Fitness. Reed became affectionally known as ‘The Mayor of Lifetime,’ and continued to make an appearance even at 89 years old. Dan faithfully picked up Reed every morning at 3:40am and headed for Lifetime. Reed would say he was the luckiest person on Earth. He was right.
Reed is now reunited with his bride, Anna (Calaboyias) Shape and beloved mini, daughter Kimberly Theodora. He leaves behind his daughter Demitra, son-in-law John Burkhart, and his grandchildren.
The family wants to thank the team at Wesley Ridge. The hospice team, the nurses and aides, especially Kayla Greer who made sure there was always laughter and love. Simply put, there is no better community than Wesley Ridge.
If you know Reed, you know he spent the summer months outside, planting his garden and looking after his flowers. Flowers were all around the house, poured over the sides of big, beautiful planters and lined the patio. So, flowers are welcome, and if preferred donations can be made to The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Columbus, OH or to the Wesley Ridge Community in Reynoldsburg, OH.
Saying goodbye is the very hardest thing to do, but we’re going to do it in Reed style. We ask you to wear something comfortable. Gym/workout gear is welcome. So, slide into your Hoka’s and Nike’s and let’s send The Mayor off with love. Friends and family will be received on Friday, June 28 from 10:30AM-11:30AM at Schoedinger Northeast, 1051 East Johnstown Rd, Gahanna, OH. Private services and interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Garden with his beloved wife and daughter will take place immediately after.
