Richard Hastilow, age 87 of New Albany, Ohio, passed away peacefully on the evening of Sunday, November 16th, 2025 at his residence in the presence of family, holding his wife’s hand. A lifelong Ohioan, he was born on October 22nd, 1938 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Thelma and Tommy Hastilow.
Richard is survived by his wife, Christine Hastilow; daughter Debi (DaShayne) Hastilow; son, Rick Hastilow; step-son, Andre (Kelley) Vatke; brothers, Charles (Rita) Hastilow, Bruce (Carol Jean) Hastilow; sister, Darlene Hastilow; grandchildren, Aspen (Sage) Vatke, Katie Vatke, Zach (Lexi) Hastilow; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Richard made a career of trucking before retiring in 2005. He was also very fond of telling people about his work prior to trucking - book binding. Richard graduated from Mount Vernon Academy and was a lifelong devoted member of the Eastwood Seventh-Day Adventist Church. An avid photographer, Richard found great joy in capturing the landscapes of the National Parks while traveling with his family. He loved to bring out the pictures of his trips to show friends and family. He treasured spending time with his grandchildren, often going out of his way to help them however he could. Richard loved to make people smile by cracking jokes or surprising them with candy from his “secret” candy stashes around his house. Richard was incredibly generous with his time. He was usually the first to offer help - he would drop everything to come fix something. His humor and kindness will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Schoedinger Northeast (1051 E Johnstown Road, Gahanna, Ohio). A memorial service will follow immediately at noon. Afterward, Richard will be laid to rest at Maplewood Cemetery.
