He was born on Groundhogs Day, February 2, 1942 the third of six children to Woodrow and Martha Wilson. He attended Eastmoor High where he was a standout athlete in football, basketball, track, and baseball. He married his high school sweetheart JoAnn Emrich and together they had four children; Carol Becker (Henry), Doug (Lisa), Danny, and Susie Ratcliff (Kelly).
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife JoAnn, his parents, his sister Barbara Turner and his brother Larry.
Professionally, Dick referred to himself as a farmer. He worked at Eastside Nursery for 37 years where he served as president. He then went into business with his sons Doug and Danny and spent the latter half of his professional life working alongside them to help build Wilson’s Turf. He was a sod farmer who had many business relationships with builders all over central Ohio and was well regarded in the community.
He was an avid Ohio State fan and was rarely, if ever, seen in anything but Ohio State apparel. He refused to wear anything maize or blue and always had at least one buckeye in his pocket or sock. For many seasons he attended every home and away football game. He donated generously over the years to Ohio State athletics and has passed his love for the Buckeyes onto his entire family.
He leaves behind an ever growing family including his nine grandchildren (Kelsi, Andrew, Ashley, Zach, Jacob, Matthew, Chad, Noelle and Chandler) and five great grandchildren (Blake, Leo, Baylor, Luka and Becker). He will be deeply missed by us all but we find great comfort in knowing he’s reunited with our mother and grandmother.
A visitation for Dick will be held Thursday, May 22, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Schoedinger Margarum Northeast, 1051 E Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM.
Dick will be laid to rest in Maplewood Cemetery, 4585 Reynoldsburg-New Albany Road, New Albany, Ohio 43054.
