Robert F. Cuschleg, Jr.

He is survived by the love of his life, Brenda (Kane) Cuschleg, whom he married on June 8, 1963; children, Robert F. (Shannon) Cuschleg III; James J. (Christy) Cuschleg, Elizabeth “Lisa” A. (Charlie) Beck, grandchildren Sara, Joe, April, Ryan, Mikey (Kaeleigh), Erin, Katie Beth, Lexie and great grandson Skyler; sister Deborah (Paul) Thompson; brother-in-law Terry (Kathy) Kane; sister-in-law Carol Kane (Jym Snider), and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and loving friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert F. and Jean Cuschleg, Sr.; and sisters, Betty Guiffre and Sandra Knigge.

A graduate of Wadsworth High School, he received his BS in Engineering from the University of Akron and his Master’s Degree in Engineering from The Ohio State University. He was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity where he created lifelong friendships and cherished memories.

Bob started his career as an electrical engineer at Bell Labs in 1962 until he retired after 37 years. His contributions and accomplishments across multiple projects led to many recognitions and awards including being recognized as a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff. While at Bell Labs, he was co-inventor of a revolutionary technology that streamlined automated call routing and was subsequently granted a patent for it. After retiring from Bell Labs, he formed his own consulting company (HSC, LLC) with good friends Bill Hagler and Don Shea.

As an adult, he chose to be baptized as a Catholic at the Church of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, Columbus. He was a current member of the Church of the Resurrection, New Albany.

Bob loved traveling with Brenda, particularly to the desert heat of Las Vegas where he especially enjoyed playing blackjack. After many vacations to Vegas, he and Brenda purchased their dream home on the golf course in Mesquite, NV in 2004. Bob joined the Oasis Golf Club and played golf regularly and together they enjoyed many social events. They were also active members of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. After 18 years of blissful living, they returned to Columbus to be closer to family.

Bob grew up playing the accordion, later also learning the piano. He loved the Lawrence Welk show, recording and watching the shows over and over. He was incredibly proud of achieving three hole-in-ones; and loved bowling as a member of the American Bowling Congress. In addition, he was a lifetime fan of the Cleveland Browns and the Indians/Guardians, rarely missing a game.

Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Road. Prayer Service will be held at 6:30 P.M.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Church of the Resurrection, 6300 E. Dublin-Granville Road. Father Dave Sizemore, Celebrant. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. The funeral will be livestreamed.
