Robert Galayde

Robert S. “Bob” Galayde, age 88, of Pataskala, died Friday, October 30, 2026. He was a man who approached life with a plan in hand and a tool ready, ensuring that his family was fiercely protected, his standards were always the highest, and nothing was ever left broken. We will always miss him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lois J. Galayde, with whom he celebrated 65 years of marriage this past August; his dog, Cindy; daughter and son-in-law, Lori J. and Dick Gaulke, Pickerington; grandson and his wife, Luke and Julie Gaulke, Columbus; grandson and his fiancé, Cole Gaulke and Julia Fernandes, Pataskala; sister-in-law, Lucy E. Galayde, Yakima, WA; nephews, Stephen, Aaron, and Scott Galayde; and best friends, Jim Fell, Jonathan and Joel Frailey and Shaun Pickering.

Preceded in death by his parents, Stephen H. and Lucy M. Galayde; and his brother, Don Galayde.

He received his Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering from Youngstown State University. He worked at North American Aviation and as an Electrical Engineer with Owens Corning Fiberglass before becoming the owner of the former Columbus Lawn and Garden in Gahanna. He retired as the Road Superintendent for Jefferson Township in Gahanna.

If it was anything mechanical, electrical and needed fixing, he was the man. He had a huge love of tractors and cars and was always involved in repairing and painting them. He was a member of Land of Legend Tractor Club in Newark. Bob contributed his time and knowledge to anyone needing help. He knew no strangers. His way of life was to teach, equip and invest in people, guiding them in how to do something for themselves. He was always there with advice and a joke for every occasion, ready to tell you what you needed to hear and you always knew where you stood with Bob.

If you want to do something in the memory or honor of Bob, teach a skill to someone, tell a joke, and know when to say “Oh, bull****!”

The family will hold a private memorial gathering at a later date.
