Russ Smalley

The Smalley family sadly announces to the Ohio Valley community the passing of our dad Russ “Pappy” Smalley surrounded by his wife Linda, married 64 years, kids Debbie, Susan and Russ Jr. After 85 years, Pappy enjoyed serving five grandchildren Wes, Lauren, Chloe Dosson and Ella - three great grandchildren Haleigh, Sydney and Marshall and extended family of grandkids Riley, Isaiah, Tegan and Emory. He is survived by one brother Bob who resides in Uniontown, PA. Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and his sister.

Dad was employed by Sherwin Williams Company for 42 years in various capacities. During his working and family career he focused on college educating his three kids and being active in the Wintersville High School boosters, athletics/band, American Legion Post 33 baseball and numerous other organizations where he felt like it was important to serve. He retired in 1998 to devote his time to work at the church. His working career and lifetime community work was driven toward helping all kids and his family. His touch and passion focusing on the community through the church, local high schools and sports relating to the valley captures his 85 years of passion toward his family and the people in this community.

Dad was always trying to entertain, his passion toward roasting or imitating band directors, coaches, teachers and in some cases US President while attending a wedding in Washington DC was enjoyable. He enjoyed being crazy imitating Foster Brooks, Professor Irwin Corey and anyone who he thought he could imitate and get a laugh.

The Smalley family would like to thank the Ohio Valley community for all of the support during my dad 42 years of working in the community. He spent another 21 years retired in Steubenville where he enjoyed good football, lunchtime basketball and camaraderie in the community. The kids decided to move mom and dad to Westerville, Ohio 5 years ago to provide better care during his remaining years.

Thank you to the Ohio Valley community for providing an awesome place to grow up and for all the support, love and prays the community has afforded our family.

The family requests no flowers. A visitation for Russ will be held Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Schoedinger Margarum Northeast, 1051 E Johnstown Road, Gahanna, Ohio 43230, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM.
