

He recently settled in Virginia to be closer to family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Rusty an eternal optimist known for saying, “…I know there’s a horse in here somewhere!” type of guy, will be remembered for his cheerfulness, determination, caring heart and willingness to help family or friends in their time of need. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his spouse, Deborah Shoemaker Davis and his children Constance (Micheal) Wagner of Allen, Texas and Timothy (Rebecca) Davis of Roanoke, Virginia. He was a cherished grandfather to Reagan Wagner, Morgan Davis, Gavin Wagner, and Ashley Davis. He will be remembered and deeply missed by siblings Charlotte (Micheal) Bougher, Sandy (John) Quarles, and Jim (Jennie)Davis. Rusty was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Don Davis.
A 1969 Gahanna Lincoln High School graduate, Rusty served in the Army as a West Point graduate, with assignments in Vicenza, Italy (1/509th Infantry), Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, 2nd Infantry Division in Korea, British Army Staff College, Camberley, England, Ft. Shaftner, Hawaii and Combat Readiness Group in Detroit, Michigan where he retired after twenty years’ service. With an Honorable Discharge from the Army, Rusty began a career with the Ford Motor Company of Detroit. He retired from Ford in 2016 after a 20-year career as a Product Development Engineer and Launch Engineer. Rusty and Debbie loved to travel visiting and enjoying great times with their many friends. On President’s Day in February 2017 Rusty was honored to join the West Point Alumni Glee Club for a performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City with combined clubs of over 250 singers from across the nation performing Randall Thompson’s “Testament of Freedom.” GO ARMY-BEAT NAVY!
A viewing will take place on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 4-7PM with a service to be held Saturday, October 18, 2025, beginning at 10AM, officiated by Rev. John Roming at Schoedinger Northeast, 1051 East Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, Ohio 43230. A reception will take place following interment on Saturday at the funeral home from 12-2PM.
