

Sam Stump, age 85, of Blacklick, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at his residence. A beloved husband, father, papaw, and friend, he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Sam is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sara Stump; son and daughter-in-law, David Stump and Jennifer Ramage, of Columbus; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer (Alan) Foust, of Westerville; grandchildren, Erin Spires of Pickerington; Noah (Kayla) Stump of Youngstown; Cameron Stump of Reynoldsburg; and Colby Foust and Graysen Foust, both of Cincinnati; great-grandchildren, Aidan and Teagan Spires and Eleanor Stump; sister-in-law, Jean Barnecut, of Gahanna; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Edna Stump.
Above all, Sam was a devoted husband, father, and papaw who treasured time with his family. He had a gift for making people feel welcome, and his quick wit, easy smile, and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His family will forever cherish the memories, stories, and laughter they shared with him.
Sam spent many years working in sales across various industries, a career that suited his outgoing personality and genuine love of people. He truly never met a stranger. He was also a proud member of the Masons for more than 50 years.
From his teenage years on, Sam had a deep love of bowling and golf – two sports that brought him tremendous joy and lifelong friendships.
A talented and accomplished bowler, Sam was a member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) for many years. He was inducted into both the Columbus Bowling Hall of Fame and the Ohio Bowling Hall of Fame in recognition of his superior performance. Over the course of his career, he competed in more than 100 tournaments and proudly bowled a perfect 300 game live on television station WHIZ in Zanesville.
Golf was another lifelong passion. Sam played on the Zanesville High School golf team and was a member of Willow Run Golf Club for more than 40 years. Through both sports, he built many lifelong friendships and cherished memories.
Calling hours will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Monday, October 12, 2026, at Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Road, with a funeral service immediately following at 6:00 p.m. In keeping with Sam’s love of the game, golf shirts are encouraged.
Private interment will be held at Wesley Union Cemetery in White Cottage, Ohio.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to John Mansaray, Sam’s caregiver, Dr. Elyse Everett, and Jessica Truelove, APRN-CNP, both of OSU Neurology, for their compassionate care and support.
