Sean Patrick Varley, age 50, of Johnstown, Ohio, passed away on August 19, 2025. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, on October 2, 1974, and grew up in Westerville. Sean was always involved in athletics and enjoyed baseball, basketball, and golf. He graduated from Westerville North High School in 1993.
Sean had a lifelong love for music and was rarely seen without a guitar in hand. He played in several bands over the years, including Red Steel, Mould, and Drilling Bonnie, and even performed the National Anthem on electric guitar at his high school graduation. He was still writing and playing music, guitar, and bass in recent years.
After moving to Bluffton, South Carolina, Sean graduated from the Technical College of the Lowcountry with an Associate Degree in Applied Science/Computer Technology in 2012. He worked in the IT field for various companies and was also the proud owner of Bent Tree Designs LLC, where his skill in custom woodworking created one-of-a-kind, beautiful pieces admired by many.
Sean was witty, ornery, and full of life—thoughtful and fun-loving, with a mischievous grin and a quick sense of humor. He had a gleam in his eyes, couldn’t sit still for long, and loved a good laugh. He was a devoted father and was so proud of his boys—better than anyone in the world, in his eyes. He recently enrolled at UMass Global, pursuing further education and earning multiple Scrum certifications (CSM, A-CSM, CSP-SM).
Sean had a passion for conservative politics and a deep love for animals, especially his beloved cat, Pistol, and his dogs, Nova, Red, and Carrie. Every pet he ever had held a special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Varley. Sean is survived by his mother, Irene Varley of Columbus; wife, Tara Varley of Johnstown; sons, Fergus and Ronan Varley of Bluffton, South Carolina (with former spouse Kristin Feldkamp); stepchildren, Wyatt and Nash Bradley; sisters, Aileen Varley Moran and Shannon Tannehill (Josh Hall), both of Columbus; brother, Chris Varley (Stacey) of Newport, Kentucky; 11 nieces and nephews; and many cousins, extended family, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Private family services were held on October 3, 2025.
