Tom grew up in Whitehall, OH, and attended Holy Spirit elementary school as one of its first students. He graduated in 1963 from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Columbus, where he was point guard on the basketball team.
Tom will be remembered for his unerring kindness and gift for making everyone feel welcome anywhere with his wonderful sense of humor and genuine interest. He had a great love of music with an encyclopedic knowledge about The Beatles, Bob Dylan, and The Band. He was also an accomplished poet, often gifting family members and friends with much cherished poems dedicated to them. In the family tradition he was an avid fan of Notre Dame's Fighting Irish but also loved the Ohio State Buckeyes.
He is survived by his wife Rosa (Muncy) Hartmann, his children Lisa, Donald, Angela, and Kelly Hartmann, and daughter-in-law Dena (DiLiddo) Hartmann, grandchildren Kiefer Hartmann, Hailee Hartmann, Ileana Perez, Olivia Perez, and Alexander Perez, sisters Helen Tyler, Catherine (Stanley) Thomas, Clara (Patrick) Feeney, Mary (Charles) Jakeway, and many nieces and nephews with whom he shared a close bond.
He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Helen Hartmann, brothers John and Joseph Hartmann, and brother-in-law Dale Tyler.
Visitation will be held at Schoedinger Margarum Northeast, 1051 E Johnstown Rd., on Tuesday, September 1, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will take place the following day, Wednesday, September 2, at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4383 E Broad St.
