after a life well-lived. Born on February 23, 1938, in Toledo, Ohio, to William E. and Ima (Ward)
Russell, Tom's life was marked by hard work, dedication, and love for his family. On July 19, 1958,
he married Carolyn (Carrie) Lackey in Genoa, Ohio, and together they built a legacy grounded in
loyalty, commitment, and unwavering support for one another.
Tom graduated from Clay-Genoa High School in 1956 and went on to earn a degree in Industrial
Engineering from Ohio University in 1960. His 40 year career with OI/Techneglas took him across
the globe, allowing him to experience new cultures, meet people from all walks of life, and
appreciate the diversity of the world. Whether it was trying new foods or exploring distant cities, Tom
embraced every opportunity that came his way. His work not only allowed him to grow professionally
but also instilled a deep sense of pride in providing for his family and being a strong leader at home.
Tom and Carrie raised their children, Krystie, Brad and David, in Gahanna, Ohio, where he took an
active role in their lives and the community. He believed in leading by example, teaching his children
the value of integrity, resilience, and hard work. From serving at church, to finding leadership roles in
the community, Tom was the kind of man who quietly made a difference without seeking recognition.
In retirement, Tom found joy in the simple things. He joined a local golf league, where his
competitive spirit thrived, but it was the camaraderie and friendships that meant the most to him.
Yardwork, watching Ohio State games, and people-watching were among his favorite pastimes. He
believed in appreciating life’s quieter moments and found peace in the ordinary.
Tom was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He cherished Carrie and their three children
along with his grandchildren, extended family and friends. His love for his family was evident in
everything he did.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Nancy, and his beloved children Krystie and
David. He is survived by his wife Carrie, his son Brad (Amy), and his grandchildren Brianna, Elie,
Julia & Scott Russell.
We find peace in knowing that Tom is now reunited with his children, parents, sister and friends in
heaven. As 2 Timothy 4:7 affirms, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept
the faith.” We take comfort knowing he is home, embraced by the love of the Lord.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to enjoy a yummy donut in Tom’s honor (he never met a
donut he didn’t like) and remember to embrace the simple joys in life. If desired, donations to Ohio
State’s Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital would also be an incredible
way to honor his memory and spirit of helping others, as it provided him and his daughter with extra
time with their loved ones.
