William R. Halsey, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, passed away on February 21, 2024. Born in Akron, Ohio, to the late Jack W. and Patricia B. Halsey, he is survived by his wife, Nancy; sisters Elizabeth, Jeanne Anne, and Sally; in-laws Margaret, Susan, and Jeff; 16 nieces and nephews; and 24 grand-nieces and nephews. He graduated from the USAF Academy with a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering. He went on to complete flight training and was assigned to pilot KC-135 refueling tankers. After several years of flying, he earned a Masters’ degree in Engineering Management and was assigned to civil engineering duties for three years. He then returned to flying. His assignments took him around the world, from Japan to Saudi Arabia. During his Gulf War service, he was thrilled to see Bob Hope on one of the USO tours. For his service during this war, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Air Medal. After 26 years of service, he retired from the Air Force. He then became a pilot for NetJets for 12 years, flying corporate customers across the country. His last years in aviation were dedicated to pilot training at FlightSafety International, where he served as ground school and flight simulator instructor.
He loved to travel – between his military career and cruise destinations, he visited all 50 states and 52 countries. His favorite was visiting Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery on Memorial Day.
