Bill 91, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, April 1, 2024. He was born on December 18, 1932, in Oxford, Ohio, to Lewis and Pearl (Floyd) Thrasher. He was preceded in death by his older and only sibling Nolan Thrasher. He married Rose Chaney on August 1, 1958. William is survived by his loving wife Rose; sons William (Yvette) of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Richard of Saint Charles, Missouri; grandchildren Jasmine Levy (Justin), Janelle, Corrine, and Alexis; Great Grandson Micah “William” Levy; sister in laws Debra Robinson, Helen Byrd, and Claudine Bethel; and a host of nieces and nephews.
William served in the United States Navy and traveled extensively while serving as a Navy Medic. After completing his career with the Navy, he pursued his education by earning his Bachelor’ degree in education from Miami University (Oxford) and his master’s degree from Xavier University in Cincinnati.
William started his career in education teaching in elementary schools in the Columbus Public School System. William became assistant principal of Ohio Avenue School after completing his master’s degree in education and later served as principal at a number of schools in the Columbus School System over his 35 year career.
William also started a second career after he retired from his education career with the Columbus Public Library where he served for 20 years. William was a faithful member of First Church of God in Columbus where he served in the food pantry and sang in the church choir for many years. He was a man of faith, he prioritized God first, family, and church. William was a very soft spoken man with a big heart for people. He is loved deeply and his family is eternally grateful for the precious gift that is the loving and impactful life of William Thrasher Sr.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 9 from 9AM-10AM at First Church of God, 3480 Refugee Rd, Columbus, OH 43232 followed by a 10AM funeral service celebrating William's life. Procession to and burial at Glen Rest Memorial Estates, 8029 E. Main St., Reynoldsburg, OH is to immediately follow the service.
