

William Henry “Bill” VanHorssen, born on February 22, 1945, in Grand Haven, passed away on September 22, 2025, at the age of 80. Formerly from Lake Orion, Michigan, he was a resident of Blacklick, Ohio.
Bill was a leader in all aspects of his life: his home, his church, his occupation, and his country. As a father, Bill enjoyed coaching youth sports and supporting his own children and grandchildren in their sports journeys. He was an active member of the school board and was a firm believer in supporting students, teachers, and families. As an elder in the Lutheran church, Bill enjoyed singing in the men' s choir and supporting the many missions of the church. He was an Area Manager within the General Motors Parts Division, and he traveled throughout the east and the midwest leading different parts divisions during his career. He was a member of the Michigan Army National Guard, retiring from service as a Major. He enjoyed traveling around the United States and abroad with his wife, Marilee to places like Jerusalem, China, Aruba, Panama, and Europe. He was an avid golfer and wine enthusiast, preferring red wine with family and good friends. Bill was a friend to all people, and although he was a quiet man, people always felt welcomed and embraced in his company. Bill was a larger than life man who was a gentle, patient, and noncomplaining person. Although his body was failing him, his gentle and loving personality continued to be a constant presence, all the way until his last moments with his loved ones.
Bill is survived by his wife Marilee VanHorssen (Hammond); children Greg VanHorssen (Jennifer VanHorssen) and Ashlee Marsh (Fred Marsh); and grandchildren Abby and Alex VanHorssen, Erick and Emilee Marsh
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Myrtle Dornbos and Tony VanHorssen, and his stepfather Kenneth Dornbos of Grand Haven, Michigan.
Services will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025 at 1:00pm at Mifflin Presbyterian Church in Gahanna, Ohio with a procession to follow for inurnment at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens located at 5600 E. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio at 2:30pm
