Annie L Wakeley

Annie Laura Wakeley was born in Marengo County on January 20, 1920 and she passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on July 13, 2017 at the age of 97. She graduated from Sweet Water High School and she attended the University of Alabama. She worked at Bryce-Partlow Hospital for a few years before her and her husband moved to Gardendale in 1971.

Annie was a member of the Glenn Iris Baptist Church, where she was active in the WMU and with the Youth of the church. She loved her dogs and took very good care of them and she was an avid Alabama Fan.

Annie was preceded in death by her parents, RL and Lena Parten, her loving husband, George Richard Wakeley; two brothers, Arthur Lee Parten and Aubrey Leigh Parten; sister, Lena Jacqueline VanDee, and a granddaughter, Adrienne Simmons.

Annie is survived by her son, Donald Parten Wakeley (Allison); two grandchildren, Aubrey DeVore Wakeley (Sandra) and Kathleen Scarlett Powers (Matthew); great granddaughter, Josephine Viana Wakeley, and a host of family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at the Oakwood Memorial Gardens, Mausoleum Chapel on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at 10:00am, followed by her entombment.
