Mom was tenacious, feisty, and one of the kindest people one could ever meet. She was deeply loved by her family and made many friends over the years, thanks to her time as an Air Force wife and her work with the Val Verde County Sheriff’s Department in Texas.
In 1971, after our dad retired from the Air Force, the family settled in Del Rio, Texas, where we made our home for the next 15 years. Later, as her children began to leave home, Mom returned to her beloved Alabama.
Mom’s greatest gift to her family was her love of nature. She taught her grandchildren the names of plants, trees, and birds. Her grandchildren treasure memories of wandering the Alabama woods with her, foraging for blackberries and picking wildflowers, and, later, spending time with their Meme in the gardens at the nursing home.
Mom was preceded in death by our father, Tom, and our brother, John. She is survived by her children: Tom Epps Jr., Kelley Meyer (Thomas), Kim Marshall (Jess), and Robin Epps (Nancy). She cherished her grandchildren: Erica Blackledge (Chris), Shena Whitney (Ryan), J.B. Marshall (Hyebin), Matt Marshall (Ahram), and Kelton Hart (Kennedy). Her great-grandchildren include Darby Kate, Maggie, Easton, Khloie, Embry, and Huxton.
Mom is also survived by her loving sisters: Sylvia Hogan, Dana Cato, and Carol Womack (Larry), and her brother, Bill Kendrick (Nagatha), whom she often visited. Remembering her as well is former son-in-law, Andrew Manger and numerous nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank the staff at Hanceville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for treating our mother as if she were their own.
A visitation for Bonnie will be held Monday, August 4, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
Bonnie will be laid to rest in Oakwood Memorial Gardens, Gardendale, AL.
