

After joining the Air Force in 1949 and while in the Reserves he married the love of his life, Peggy Smith Clendening on September 5, 1959.
After his honorable discharge in 1960 he went to work for Standard Oil, now known as Chevron. He retired from there and he and Peggy traveled the United States for several years. They were members of Gardendale First Baptist Church for 45 years where Chuck drove the church bus for the youth and seniors for several years. They have been members of East Gardendale Baptist Church since 2013 and were members of the Agape Sunday School Class.
Chuck was preceded in death by his mother and father, Myrtle and Oscar Clendening; sister, Dorothy Clendening Greene, and his loving and devoted wife, Peggy Smith Clendening, who passed away March 12, 2021. He is survived by his nieces, Pam Greene and Sandy Dewald (Dave); great nephew, Sam Dewald of Tennessee; cousins, Billy Hunnicutt, Larry Clendening, and Jeff Goad of Tennessee; Aunt Connie "Bug" Farmer of California, and many special friends; Tony Cousins, Tracy Wilson, Phillip and Mary Blaney, James Love, Rex Keeling, and a wonderful Sunday School Class.
Celebration of Life Services for Chuck will be held Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, Gardendale, Alabama, with a time of visitation to begin at 1:00 p.m.; funeral service at 2:00 p.m., followed by his burial in Oakwood Memorial Gardens, Gardendale, Alabama.
