Mr. Charles "Cooter" Steven Coleman

Steve “Cooter” Coleman had a heart of gold. He had a pure heart. To know Steve was to know true love. He was a gentle, kind, and loving, man.

Steve was a member of Gardendale First Baptist Church. He loved God. Steve was raised in a Christian home. This showed through his love and actions toward others.

His nickname was, “Cooter”. If you knew him as “Cooter” then you knew him through racing. Steve was passionate about drag racing. He raced all across the state of Alabama. This was one of the happiest times of his life. He would talk your ears off with stories about his racing days. It’s amazing to talk to someone about Steve and have them respond, “Oh, you are talking about Cooter”.

Steve had other interests outside of racing that made him unique. He enjoyed coon hunting. The stories that could be told! Steve was also an avid Alabama fan through and through. It didn’t matter if it was football, basketball, or softball. If it was Alabama, he was “Rolling with the Tide”!

Charles Steven “Cooter” Coleman will be missed by many. He was a great son! Ask his mother...she will tell you! She has always been his biggest cheerleader. His mother, Betty Coleman, would like to express her deepest gratitude to each of you for the love, compassion, visits, and assistants during his latest trials in this thing called life. Too many to list by name.

Charles Steven Coleman is survived by his mother, Betty Handley Coleman. Steve is also survived by some special friends: Shannon & Lesli Dodson, Vicki Collar, Brandon Collar, Justin Collar (Lauren), Brittany Ellis (Corey), as well as many other extended family members and close friends.

Steve is predeceased by his father, Charles L. Coleman; his grandparents, Luke & Geneva Handley, and J. D. & Maie Coleman.

Visitation will be held at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Hwy, Gardendale, Alabama 35071, on August 10, 2026, at 10:00 am, followed by A Celebration of Life Service at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Hwy, Gardendale, Alabama 35071, on August 10, 2026, at 11:00 with Mr. George Weeks to officiate and Mr. Bryan Knox singing. The committal service will be immediately following at Glennwood Baptist Church Cemetery in Morris, AL.
