

Charles Christopher Cotton, age 91, formerly of Panama City, Florida, and a resident of Gardendale, Alabama, passed away on November 2, 2025, peacefully surrounded by his loving family to join the engineering team of Jesus Christ. A devoted husband, father, brother, and patriarch, Charles lived a life marked by faith, strength, and an unwavering love for his family.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Cotton; six daughters, who were his pride and joy: Darlene Cotton Robinson, Denise Jeffreys Tubbs (Ricky), Michelle Cotton Drummond (Pat), Jeanne Jeffreys Busby (Joel), Patricia Cotton Ressler, and Charla Cotton Thomas (Chris); and sister, Gayle Cotton Murphy (John). He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Lucile Cotton; sister, Peggy Cotton Malone; and brother, Percy (Scotty) Cotton.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Charles honorably served during the Korean conflict from March 1957 to January 1959, followed by four years in the Army Reserve. His dedication to service reflected the same integrity and commitment he carried throughout his life.
Charles earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from the University of Florida in August 1969. He went on to dedicate nearly three decades (29 1/2 years) to his career at the Naval Coastal Systems Station, where his work made a lasting impact.
Charles Cotton was a proclaimed follower of Jesus Christ and a devoted member of Enon Baptist Church in Morris, Alabama. His faither guided his life and his love for others, leaving a lasting example for all who knew him. He was the proud patriarch of a large and loving family, blessed with 28 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren. His warmth, humor, and quiet wisdom touched all who knew him and will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Deric Darsey, Ricky Tubbs, Pat Drummond, Joel Busby, Erik Ihaksi, and Chris Thomas. Honorary pallbearers are Charles' grandsons and great-grandsons.
A visitation will be held for Charles at 1:00 PM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel on November 6, 2025, followed by a Celebration of Life Graveside Service in Oakwood Memorial Gardens at 2:00 PM.
Charles will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his devotion, kindness, and the legacy of love, faith, and strength he leaves behind.
