Charles Dewayne Smith

Charles was born on January 22, 1966. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence touched the lives of many. Charles was married to his beloved wife, Tammy Smith of 40 years. He was a proud father to his daughters, Ashley Smith and Amber Smith, and a loving grandfather to his granddaughter, Hannah Melcher.

He is survived by his siblings, Jackey Gaither (Cristy), Demetria Turner (Chris), and Rodney Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jackey Dale and Glenda Renee Gaither, and his brother, Jeffery Gaither.

Charles worked for Jefferson County as a Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO), a career from which he eventually retired. He took pride in his work and in providing for his family.

Outside of work, Charles enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved spending time hunting and fishing and could often be found relaxing while watching his favorite Western shows. Above all, he loved his family and the time he spent with the people closest to him.

Charles fought a courageous battle with cancer, and although his passing leaves an emptiness that cannot be filled, his family finds comfort in knowing that he is now free from the pain and suffering he endured.

He will be remembered for the life he lived, the memories he created, and the love he gave to his family and friends. His absence will be deeply felt, but his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Charles is now at peace, no longer suffering, and finally free from pain.
