July 17, 1967 - October 8, 2021
CJ Cobert of Locust Fork formerly of Gardendale, Alabama received the beautiful gift of complete healing on October 8, 2021 at the age of 54, when he went home to be with the Lord. He was a devoted Father, Step-Father, Father-in-Law and Grandfather (Paw Paw), and a loving husband to Kimberly. They met in 2014 and were married for two years.
CJ was born and raised in the Bayou of Lafitte, Louisiana and attended Fishers High School. He was a seafood fisherman until he started working on the Mississippi River and offshore as a Tankerman for many years.
In 1997, he moved to Alabama where he started painting and opened his own business. He had a successful career for over 20 years as a professional painter and skilled carpenter. Not only was he a talented painter but he loved to cook. He enjoyed cooking Cajun dishes for family and friends which inspired his dream of owning a Food Truck. Everyone loved his Pina Coladas and Shrimp Boils. He loved crawfish and enjoyed attending Crawfish Boils in the Spring and Festivals in the Fall with his wife. He was an avid LSU football fan and loved spending time with family and friends. He was the life of the party and loved to dress up for themed birthday and Halloween parties. He was very funny and everyone loved to hear him talk with his deep Cajun accent. You never knew what he would come up with or what he was going to say.
In 2003, he was introduced to Tres Dias (A Christian Community), which was a spiritual life changing retreat. He attended this event which was called Birmingham Tres Dias #8. This event was a turning point in his life where he learned many things about himself and the significance of being the hands and feet of Christ. Soon after this experience, his personal coin ministry began. This consisted of him visiting and praying for people in the hospital. The people he visited were people he knew and did not know. He was especially led to those that seemed to have no one. After his visit, he always gave them a special coin as a reminder that Jesus cares.
After his first encounter with Tres Dias, he went on for several years giving back by working the same retreats that poured into him. One of the places that he seemed to work the most, on these weekends…was the kitchen.
CJ is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence J. Cobert, Jr. and Merrilyn Christen Cobert.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly Johnson Walton-Cobert, Daughter, Tiffany Cobert; Sons, Brian Cobert and Brett Sanderson; Step-Daughters, Morgan Vickers (Zack), Britney Kelley (Mitch), Savannah Brasfield (Caleb); Step-Sons, Ryan Grinstead (Cynthia), Matt Walton, and Cameron Ellis; Grandchildren, Brynlee and Rylee Vickers, Amelia Brasfield, Cameron Ellis, Jr. and Kamilla Ellis; Sisters, Merri Lynn Duet (Danny), Merri Claire Cobert, Kim Pertuit (Dino) and Brother, Reed Cobert (Dawn).
