Watts, Mrs. Cora Lavenia (Thrift) “Nanny”, age 81 of Brookside was born July 19, 1931 and passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013. She was retired from Calder Furniture Company and was a member of Bivens Chapel United Methodist Church. She is survived by her three children, a daughter, Gail Gooch (Mike), and two sons, Joel Watts (Linda) and David Watts (Regina); ten grandchildren, Michael, Bo, Derek, Jennifer, Monica, Rachel, Joe, Suzanne, Ashley, and Bethany, twenty-six great grandchildren, Brandon, Bradley, Mason, Austin, Caleigh, Brooklyn, Landon, Destiney, Dustin, Seth, Savannah, Angelina, Riley, John-Michael, Presley, Alissa, Damien, Cody, Amanda, John, Tristan, Kalen, Caroline, Jeremiah, Luke, and Olivia; twelve great-great grandchildren, Micah, Marley- Claire, Maddox, Kolby, Logan, Chandler, Kalen, Stephen, Sadie Kate, Lani Grace, Ember, and John David. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, James Howard Watts; her parents, Anson Thrift and Bert Williams Thrift; two brothers, Carl Thrift and Ted Thrift; two sisters, Jane Ingram and Wanda Hendon.
Lavenia, better known as “Nanny” to just about everyone that knew her was a remarkable woman. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother. She would do anything for anybody and would always bring a smile to your face. She loved painting pictures and would often give them to family and friends. She also sewed, crocheted, and enjoyed going to eat at Cracker Barrel with her family. She will be greatly missed by everyone but we have the peace knowing she is with our Lord. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 18th at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel at 2 PM with visitation from 12 Noon until service time. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Gardens.
