Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Sue Campbell Winnett, Son, David Wayne Winnett, Jr., wife-Andi, daughter Carol Waldrop, husband, Andy, grand-daughters, Kalai Livingston, husband- Corey, Madison Driver, husband-Cody, Katie Winnett , fiancé, Wyatt Roberts, Sara Winnett, great-grandson Liam Parker Roberts and great-granddaughter Kinley Livingston (Kinley also has a brother due in January), Sisters, Ann Jones, husband -Calvin, Judy Wood, Brothers, Phillip Winnett, wife-Sheila Robert Winnett, wife-Becky, brother-in law, Doug Campbell and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended friends and family.
Wayne worked 40+ years at Dixie Type & Supply where he worked as the Service Manager. He helped his son and many other people in his family get started in their career.
Loved his wife - worked very hard so she could be at home.
Was a worker – couldn’t sit still – always had to be doing something. Could fix most anything – would work at it until he figured it out.
Loved his neighbors -his family have heard many stories from the neighbors stopping by and talking about visiting with him while he was always working in the yard.
Took exceptional care of his parents – made sure they were kept at home until their passing.
Was a storyteller – could remember names of people he did things with and places he went in great detail – could sit and tell stories for hours.
Loved to fish and could out fish most everyone; always came home with something when no one else was catching anything – after planning a fishing trip would be so excited about leaving the next morning that he couldn’t sleep the night before.
Loved to garden-had a big garden; once when he wasn’t feeling well it took the whole family to keep up with what he had been doing himself.
Was a giver – during garden times you couldn’t see him that he didn’t hand you a bag of some kind of vegetables.
Loved Kinley (their great granddaughter that they kept) – Sue changed her diapers and fed her but Wayne was her entertainment; would get down in the floor and play with her for hours, they couldn’t have made it through Covid without her as a distraction.
Andy Waldrop his son-in law wanted everyone to know that he lost his buddy and best friend and that he loves his inlaws very much.
Wayne was loved by many people and will be missed greatly by those whose lives he touched.
A visitation for David will be held Saturday, July 15, 2023 from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM.
