The world became a little less bright and Heaven rejoiced on May 25, 2026, with the passing of our loving dad, Dwight Douglas Mays, age 83 known by many names, husband, father, daddy, pop and Poppie. He was born on September 1, 1942, in Brag City, Missouri to Henry Anderson (Joe), and Madge Palmer Mays. Dwight was head usher, deacon and member of Gardendale First Baptist Church.
Dwight was a devoted husband, loving father and faithful servant of God. He was known for a gentle spirit and unwavering faith. He lived his faith daily and left a legacy of Christian kindness. He taught his children to love the Lord, work hard and treat fairly. He is reunited in Heaven with his Lord and his beloved wife, Edna. Dad was happiest when surrounded by his family and enjoyed his hobbies, playing golf and coin collecting. His strength and compassion were unmatched - during talks about his faith - he would say, “you either Believe or You don’t” then I would say, “I Believe” and his reply, “Don’t Worry about it then - God Is in Control!” Dwight retired in 2021; he owned Mays Auto Service and D&E Auto Sales. He enjoyed these days working with his sons, Scott, and David, and son in law - Brian. He referred to these days as “Happy Days”.
Dwight Douglas Mays was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Edna, two brothers, Donald Wayne Mays and Doyle Anderson Mays, a great granddaughter, Alivia Brianne Childress. Dwight is survived by his three loving children, Sherry Tucker (Brian), Scott Mays (Carol), David Mays (Theresa); six grandchildren, Benjamin “Ace” Tucker, Bethany “Queenie” Tucker, Garrett “Gab” Mays, Anna “Annie” Walker (Trey), Joshua “Bubba” Mays (Britanny) and Mallori “Mal” Mays; eleven great grandchildren, Brindlee Tucker, Matthew Tucker, Benjamin Evans, Thomas Evans, Alyssa Childress, Nellie Mays, Caroline Mays, Sutton Walker, Banks Walker, Jovie Gremmels and Liam Gremmels. He also leaves behind his brother, Roger Dale Mays and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.
