Elizabeth McConnell

She was born on August 17, 1936 in Holly Pond, AL to parents James A. Garfield and Cora (Tanner) Burgess. She graduated from Mortimer Jordan High School and was a homemaker all of her married life.

She married William Carl “Bill” McConnell on February 14, 1958. She was known for her love of people and her sense of humor. In her younger years she enjoyed many different craft hobbies and even took up painting landscapes in her later years.

She is survived by her daughter, Cathy (Allen) Turner; grandchildren, Gabriel Turner and Leita (Paul) Hunter; great grandchildren, Indigo Hunter, Meadow Hunter, Marigold Hunter, Leo Wright and Lula Hunter; brother William “Bud” (Peggy) Burgess. She is also survived by nieces, Lynda Jackson, Darlene Sale, Jill Burch, Sheila (Benny) Doss, Marsha (Brack) McPherson, Susan (Albert) Thomas;

nephew, Randy Jackson; special friend, H Y Beasley; and many cousins and friends.

She is predeceased by parents, Garfield and Cora Burgess; husband, Bill McConnell; brother, Royce Burgess; sisters, Margaret Jackson and Erma Cleere; and nephew, Rod (Susan) Jackson.

A visitation will be held on Friday June 12, 2026 at 2:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 pm at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL.
