Evelyn Joyce Foster, lovingly known as Joyce, of Fultondale, Alabama, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at the age of 88, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly.
Born on June 10, 1938, Joyce was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy in life was her family. She was a member of New Georgia Baptist Church, and although she wasn’t one to speak openly about her faith all the time, her love for the Lord was evident in the way she treated others.
Joyce had the sweetest, most gentle spirit and a heart that always seemed to have room for everyone else. She was soft-spoken, kind, and selfless in ways that came so naturally to her. She never asked for much, but was always willing to give whatever she could. Her family meant everything to her, and she spent her life making sure they knew just how deeply they were loved. She especially looked forward to holidays when everyone could gather together. Those moments spent surrounded by the people she loved were among her greatest joys.
Joyce was never someone who needed much. She was thankful for what she had and found happiness in the things that mattered most to her. Life wasn’t always easy, and there were certainly seasons that required faith, strength and sacrifice. But through the good times and difficult ones, her love for her family remained constant. She made the best of what life gave her and found her greatest joy in the people she held closest to her heart.
The family Joyce leaves behind is a beautiful reflection of the life she lived. Through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, the love she gave will continue for generations to come. She may never have fully realized just how much of herself she gave to those around her or how much the little things she did meant to the people who loved her most. The example she set, the sacrifices she made, and the love she gave are things her family will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
Joyce is survived by her children, Teresa Sanders, Eddie Foster, Lisa (Harry) Peyton, Susan (Maverick) Jones, Carolyn (Gary) Smith, and Donna (Phillip) Banks; her brother, Joe (Gloria) Wadsworth; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward A. Foster; her daughter, Cindy Durden; her son-in-law, Delbert Sanders; her sister, Shirley Wadsworth; and her brother, Howard Wadsworth.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, beginning at 10 a.m. at Walker Chapel Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., officiated by her pastor, Thomas Graves, with burial to follow.
The words of 2 Timothy 4:7-8 are a beautiful reflection of Joyce’s life and faith that carried her through it:
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.”
While saying goodbye is never easy, there is comfort in knowing she is at peace, reunited with those she loved who went before her, and home with her Savior.
We will miss her sweet voice and her gentle spirit. For so many years, she ended nearly every goodbye with the same familiar words. And now, as we say our earthly goodbye to her, it seems only fitting that we leave her with the very words she gave us so many times.
“I love you, too, sweetheart.”
