He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Tommy and Sue Robinson. Alan was survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Paula Lane Robinson, his children Ashley (Justin) Dial and David (Laurel) Robinson; treasured grandchildren Josh Dial and Daphne Robinson; his brother Paul (Rene) Robinson and niece Kelsi (Logan) Hurley; as well as many other family and friends.
Alan graduated from Mortimer Jordan High school in 1979; he would return to film for the football team in the late 90s and early 2000s when his son was playing. He loved rooting for his alma mater. Alan also spent many years as a football referee for various high school and little league teams, he also coached many baseball teams. He loved to watch hockey and college sports, especially the Crimson Tide. Alan loved SEC Baseball, especially the Tournament in Hoover, which he attended every year except 1. When he wasn’t spoiling his grandkids, he played golf with his buddies, listened to his favorite music, collected sports memorabilia, read and enjoyed crossword puzzles. He retired from Birmingham Water Works after 36 years.
Alan was a member of Enon Baptist Church for 18 years. He sang in the choir, helped with the wild game feast and just last year began serving as a reading buddy at Warrior Elementary through the church’s Read With Me Program. Though he became a believer in his youth, Alan credits the Better Man Program for renewing and strengthening his faith. A faith that would see him through a yearlong paralysis and a battle with cancer.
Alan was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, treasured brother, uncle, friend and “ballpark dad” to so many. He will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Enon Baptist Church, 724 Morris Majestic Road, Morris, AL 35116 in the main sanctuary on Thursday, July 24th. Visitation will be at 10-11:30, followed by the service at 11:30.
