Frances spent her growing-up years in Powderly, a place she dearly loved, where special memories were made and would later in life be the place where she raised her children. She knew everyone there and loved, and was loved, by all. As her mind began to fade in her last few months it was the place where she longed to be.
In December 1941 she married Harold Thompson. She was barely sixteen years old. She always told us that one week she was roller skating down Cedar Ave., and the next week she was married. Never did she neglect to point out that times were different then; there was a war going on. One and half years after she married, in 1942, she graduated from Jones Valley High School. Harold and Frances had a good, long life together, spanning almost 55 years. She helped her husband when he was self-employed by keeping the books and scheduling appointments. Later she went to work for and retired from Sears after many years of working in the Maintenance Agreement Office. Frances was a loving and devoted wife who cared for Harold until his death.
Frances was a Christian who loved the Lord and whose life was a Christian example for others. The trials and tribulations she had to face in her life she faced with dignity, knowing the Lord would see her through. She was the Virtuous Women described in Proverbs 31. She was a wife her husband could be proud of, a soft-spoken, reserved lady, always modestly dressed, and a mother that is called Blessed by her daughters.
She is survived by four precious daughters: Harolda (Allen) Klein, Judy (Skip) Parker, Terri (Bil) Croxton and Tami (Curtis) Dosch. She had 13 Grandchildren, 20 Great-grandchildren, and 1 Great-great grandson.
Upon her arrival Frances was greeted in heaven by her husband Harold, her parents Ben and Beatrice Pettyjohn Waldrop and her brother, Forney Waldrop.
A visitation will be held at the Woodland West Baptist Church, 3717 Old Jasper Hwy, Adamsville, AL 35005, on Saturday, July 6, 2013 from 11:30 am until 1:00pm with a funeral service at 1:00pm. Interment will follow at Valhalla Cemetery in Midfield. Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers her family requests that donations be made in her memory to the missionary fund at her church, Woodland West. The mission program was something she believed in, loved and supported for many years.
Her family wishes to thank Hope Hospice for their support and encouragement as we cared for our mother. A special thank you to mother’s friend Judy Webster, she was a true friend to Mother for many, many years. Words alone cannot express our gratitude to her.
Mama loved a good obituary; she read them every morning clipping and saving hundreds of them through the years. This is our tribute to her. We love you, Mama. Thank you for the example you set, it has been an honor to call you mama. Harolda, Judy, Terri, and Tami.
