Fred Mathis

July 12, 1945 – April 2, 2015

Fred Mathis of Morris, AL passed away Thursday, April 2, 2015. He was born in Palmerdale, AL. He graduated from Tarrant High School, Jefferson State, and UAB. He was retired from Steel City Bolt and Screw, where he worked in sales. He was a devout Catholic and faithful member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, where he served as a RCIA team member. He was predeceased by his sister Audrey Barron. Left to cherish his memory are Jan, his beloved wife of 29 years, his daughters Claire and Merrit, and his loving family Carol Gay, Lisa and Greg Day, Jim Gay, nieces and nephews he adored, and sister Rhoda Wills. Visitation is Monday, April 6, from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, with funeral mass immediately following offered by Reverend Michael J. Deering. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church Building Fund at PO Box 1027, Gardendale, AL 35071.
