

Geneva “Jenny” Weeks Sigler, age 90, passed away peacefully in her home on February 26, 2014, after a long and wonderful life. She was born in Guin, Alabama on November 10, 1923. She is predeceased by her husband, Charles Allen Sigler and one son, Charles Allen Sigler, Jr. She was predeceased by her parents, Shirley Simon Weeks and Vera Akers Weeks and by one brother, William Hubert Weeks, and loving sister in Law, Martha Lou (Pridmore) Weeks, three sisters - Jamaica (Weeks) McMillan and her husband Glenn, Ruby Mae (Weeks) Self, and Sarah Reba Weeks. She is survived and mourned by one sister Shirley Peggy (Weeks) Franks, loving brother in law, R. L. Franks, her two daughters Diane Sigler Kemp and Caroline (Sigler) Barkhurst, loving son in law David and grandson Cyrus Barkhurst, a Daughter in Love, Dana Self Sigler and one “adopted” daughter PJ Loftin. She is survived by two sisters in “love” – Wilma (Sigler) Smith and Clarice (Sigler) Coker. She is also survived by special friends Dick and Ruth Barkhurst. She was especially loved and cared for by one special nephew, David Anthony Self of Montgomery, Alabama. She was loved and is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family wishes to express special appreciation and love to her full time caregiver and friend, Beverly Higgins who graciously cared for her these last two years. We also wish to thank other caregivers and physician Cynthia Walters and assistant Tina Austin, who lovingly cared for her. She was a graduate of Marion County High School. In 1941, she moved to Birmingham to attend Birmingham School of Cosmetology and worked in the East Lake area. In the early years of World War II she worked at Hayes Aircraft repairing airplanes to support the war effort. At the end of World War II, she met and married the love of her life, Charles Allen Sigler on March 8, 1947. She nursed him with great love and care; their marriage of 56 years ended when Charles lost his battle to cancer in 2003. She never stopped missing him. Her life was filled with her love for her children, her grandchild, and work for her Lord and Savior. After she retired from real estate she remained active in her church and loved to travel and visit friends. She offered her home and her heart to many relatives and friends through the years. She loved and cared for each one as if they were her own. She especially enjoyed entertaining friends and family for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Her generosity and gracious welcome was felt by all who came to her home. She was always happy when her home was filled with family, friends and great food. She was a longtime servant and member of the Birmingham First Seventh Day Adventist Church in Hoover, Alabama. She loved Vacation Bible School and the children of the church. She supported them with her time, her tithe and her love. Services will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Birmingham First Seventh Day Adventist Church, 3520 Lorna Road, Hoover, Alabama 35216. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm; followed by Remembrance services at 2 pm. Graveside service will be at Oakwood Memorial Gardens in Gardendale, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Children’s Department of the Birmingham First Seventh Day Adventist Church.
