Harold M. Powell

Harold M. Powell, age 67 of Mt. olive, AL passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014. Harold was retired from Bethlehem Steel Company and then retired from the Ingersoll Rand Company. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for many years and had served as Worshipful Master during that time. As an avid motorcycle enthusiast he enjoyed riding with his friends, also, hunting, fishing, and woodworking. Harold and his wife attended Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church in Gardendale. He was preceded in death by his father, Haywood Powell; brothers, Mickey Powell, Bobby Powell; and a sister, Sue Powell. He was a loving and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother who was very much loved and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joy Powell; his daughters, Kristie Averhart (Tim) and Karin Thomas (Chuck); grandchildren, Joey Thomas, Jordan Thomas, Andrea Rouse (Jake), Zac Averhart, Jake Averhart, and Xavier Waters Averhart; a great grandson, Wesson Rouse; mother, Opal Cheatwood; a brother-in-law, Leonard Gay; brothers, Robert Cheatwood (Susan) and Jerry Powell (Nella Dean); a sister, Janice Quick (Mike); a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Chapel funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel at 2 PM with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Gardens.
