Helen Matthews, age 100, of Pawnee, passed away peacefully at her home on November 28, 2020. She was predeceased by her husband, Taylor, and daughter, Mary Ann. She is survived by her son, Gerald; sister, Julie Brown; niece, Denise; grandchildren, April, Jennifer, Melissa, and William; and great grandchildren, Kyle, Nicholas, Jeremy, Jerikiah, Taylor, Shaylor, David and Katlyn.
Helen was an active member of the community and of Pawnee Baptist Church, having served as the organist for over 40 years. In an article in Alabama Baptist magazine on her long service she said, “There is a lot of love in the church. Everyone looks out for each other and does what the Lord leads them to do. I have a lot of help and a lot of love from the people at the church.”
Funeral services will be held at Pawnee Baptist Church, 2370 Hewitt Dr., Birmingham, AL 35217, on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at 11am with viewing at 10am.
