

Henry proudly served in the United States Army from 1967-1969. He fought in the Vietnam War as an infantry mortarman. He was a sergeant at the time of his discharge. After the war, he began his 37-year career with Norfolk Southern Railway, retiring in 2008 as a conductor.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lorene Swindle Hill; sons, Patrick (Samantha) Hill, Jason Hill and Matthew (Taylor) Hill; sisters, Shelby Calhoun and Patricia Dundford; grandchildren, Alyx Hill, Graham Hill, Lillian Hill, Keagan Floyd, Jac Hill, Sam Hill, Finley Hill, Kate Hill, Mack Hill and Elijah Hill; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents James Oscar and Minnie Palmer Hill; brother, Bobby Hill; sisters, Ruth Seale and Levis Cook; and daughter in law, Cyndy Hill.
Henry loved listening to music, painting, studying scriptures, wearing a fedora and spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren. Of all the names he was called, Paw Paw was his most favorite of all!
He was a wonderful son, husband, father, brother, and Paw Paw. He is greatly missed.
Visitation for Henry will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071, on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, followed by a 1:15 PM graveside service at the Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Hwy 119, Montevallo, AL 35115.
