Herbert Samuel Smith

Herbert retired from Sloss Furnace after 40 years of service. He was a very loving and devoted husband and did all he could to care for his family. His passion was his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and he loved spending time with them.

Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert W. and Marie Smith; two sons, Chris Smith and Jason Smith, and a sister-in-law, Florence Smith.

Herbert is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Mary F. Smith; sons, Heath Smith (Misty), Jerry Scarborough (Wendy), and Perry Scarborough (Marty); one brother, Ralph Smith; two sisters, Shirley Payton and Gaye Giangrosso (James); twelve grandchildren, Savannah Smith, Josh Smith, Angel Sharp (Zach), Cheyenne Scarborough, Sam Scarborough, Josh Scarborough, Tyler Camp, Ericka Camp, Reece Smith, Kylee Johnson, Austin Sandoval, and Justin Smith; five great grandchildren, Kira Smith, Scarlett Smith, Barrett Sharp, Poppy Johnson, and Mason Camp; several other family members and a host of friends.

A graveside service for Herbert will be held Friday, August 20, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Oakwood Memorial Gardens, 2100 Moncrief Road, Gardendale, AL 35071.
