

He was a jack of all trades. He began working picking cotton. He then went on to work at a Sawmill, he built cars for GM Motors, he worked as a miner, he built dynamite, he was a manager at McDonalds, and ultimately he settled working as an optician. He opened Howard Reid Optician in Gardendale in 1975 where he worked for many decades until retirement. He was a country boy and a very hard worker. Out of all of his accomplishments his greatest passion was his family and friends. He was a man of many words, always sharing stories, and not ever meeting a stranger.
He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann Reid, his son Danny Reid, and grandson Phillip Reid. He is survived by daughter, Elizabeth Weir, son David Reid (Peggy), son Michael Reid (Susan), grandchildren, Patty Scott, Kristy Alexander (David), Brandy Malone, Bridget Yazel (Billy), Bobbie Jo Ward (Brad), Alex Paraskevakos, and Olivia Reid , 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
The visitation will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel on Thursday August 2, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. The service of remembrance will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel on Friday August 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with interment immediately following at Mt. Olive Cemetery.
