Inez "Ned" J Guthery

passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2012, at her home in Gardendale, Alabama; with her children at her side. “Ned” was born January 28, 1918, in Cullman County, Alabama. She was the youngest of six children born to James Thomas and Dallie Elizabeth Brewer Johns. “Ned” attended Logan School where she later became a teacher. She married Francke W. Guthery in 1946. In 1955, Ned and Francke moved to Gardendale where she taught at Gardendale Elementary School for 22 years. She was a faithful member of Gardendale Church of Christ.

“Ned” was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francke W. Guthery; brothers: James and Leonard Johns; sisters: Maude Starnes, Lela Harbison, and Birdie Guthery; two nephews; and six nieces. She is survived by her children: Pat (Dennis) Kahler, Phillip Guthery, and Beth (Rob) Walker; grandchildren: Kim (Jeff) Ray, Kris (Kim) Kahler, Matt (Jessica) Walker, and Michael (Melissa) Walker; and great grandchildren: Jessica Ray, Courtney Ray, Austin Ray, Keaton Kahler, Kayley Kahler, Sophia Walker, Madison Walker, and Grant Walker. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, one special caregiver, Catherine Barron, and countless former students whom she loved dearly and influenced greatly.

Visitation will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel on Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 2:00 PM; officiated by Bennie Ray Williams and Terry Benton. Burial will be in the mausoleum at Oakwood Memorial Gardens in Gardendale. Pallbearers will be: Rob Walker, Dennis Kahler, Kris Kahler, Matt Walker, Michael Walker, and Jeff Ray.
