James Walter Atkins, age 87 of Mt. Olive, AL was born in Alabama on February 15, 1928 and passed away on November 8, 2015. He was raised in Haleyville, AL and served his country proudly in the U S Army from 1950 thru 1956. Mr. Atkins was a faithful member of the Church of Christ his entire life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Sally Atkins and a brother, Ray Atkins. He moved to Birmingham with his wife and raised three daughters. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Madge Atkins; his daughters, Sheila Atkins Sims (Barry), Linda Atkins Powell (Ken), and Sharon Atkins Lee (Steve); brothers, Lloyd Atkins and Junior Atkins; a sister, LeWanda Tubbs; his grandchildren, Daniel, Anthony, Jonathan, Joseph, Blake, Brooke, Meagan, Bobby, Stephen, and Grant; great grandchildren, Seth, Lidia, Penelope, Heather, Alayna Jo, Eva, Bella, Abigail, and Vivian.
Chapel funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 11th at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Gardens.
